A few days ago the Industrial Application Software GmbH (IAS), a system provider from Karlsruhe, and the enjoyed another milestone in their partnership: Tomislav Zeljko, head of consulting at IAS and the person in charge of this cooperation awarded 33 certificates to students of the Bachelor’s course “Außenwirtschaft/Internationales Management” (foreign trade /international management (AIM)) for successful participation in the joint study project. Professor Brigitte Braun, professor for business information technology and the patron of the partnership on HAW’s side expressed her great joy at the results of the partnership: “From my point of view our event was a great success and I would like to express my heartfelt thanks! Our course director Professor Christian Decker immediately afterwards suggested that we further pursue projects of this kind and to contemplate how we could permanently integrate such an event into the Master’s course. I would very gladly intensify the cooperation with IAS in our region.”
A study project with an added value for real life
The enterprise resource planning (ERP) system caniasERP created by IAS has been used at the HAW Hamburg since the winter term 2013/2014 both for practicing as well as teaching purposes. Within the framework of an extensive practical-oriented case study the students implemented the business solution in a fictional company. In doing so they dealt with the typical issues of users as well as with the introduction of an ERP system in general.
The first task of the project was to understand the business processes and the company’s requirements for the software, to produce a specification sheet on this basis and check it by means of caniasERP. In a closing presentation the project participants showed their results and discussed them with Tomislav Zeljko and their professor. Thereby the AIM students of the HAW were able to simulate an entire value chain in a real system. Step for step the future Bachelor’s graduates gained insight into the economic aspects of an ERP software and its benefits. The independent confrontation with this topic helped them understand the ERP solution as a comprehensive and highly integrated IT system and deepen their knowledge of business informatics.
